Following the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, Shaluinn took the next year off from running to
attend the Stanford Graduate School of Business as a Sloan Fellow. She graduated in
June 2009 with a M.S. in Management and currently works in Product Marketing at
Google, Inc. where she has worked since 2002. In early 2005, Shaluinn was diagnosed
with thyroid cancer. She spent the remainder of the year undergoing surgery and radiation
treatment. Still, she continued to run during radiation. In March 2008, she qualified for the
U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon at the Napa Valley Marathon running a personal best of
2:46:04. Seven weeks later she competed in the U.S. Olympic trials, running her second
fastest time of 2:49:00.
